James Gordon will attend the University of Kentucky this fall. After working in retail, he decided to make a change for himself and his family and pursue higher education. While he gained much experience in the work force, James expressed his desire for more fulfilling work which he hopes to acquire by getting his degree in accounting. In his inspiring essay, James honored two men in his life, his father and his father in law, who have helped him to define the American Dream. James shared the obstacles that these two outstanding men had to undergo to make their own American Dreams a reality. Encouraged by their hard work and dedication, James says, “I believe I embody the “American Dream” by showing that it is never too late to accomplish your dreams. It is never too late to change your circumstances in life. In the United States, there are endless opportunities for those who are willing to give 100% of themselves to accomplish something. I am proud to say, for the first time in my life, I am a straight A student and well on my way to making my dreams a reality. I wish to have a career that is not only financially rewarding but also one that I can be proud of and where I can serve others. By accomplishing my goals, I hope to be an inspiration to other non-traditional students so that they can do the same.”
