This Fall, Daniel Ige will continue his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. Daniel shared the challenges of being a first generation African- American student going across the country for higher education while also supporting his family. He compared his journey to “climbing a mountain where, regardless of the direction I look—up or down—all I see is the vast expanse of clouds. It's when we reach greater heights that new opportunities emerge. It's an ongoing cycle of reflection and purpose.” For Daniel, The American Dream is about “The blending of cultures resulting from my privileged opportunity to study in America and my parents' village upbringing has shaped a pseudo-American experience that defines much of my identity. It reflects not only the humility of my upbringing but also the chance I was given to flourish as a student and citizen of America. The American Dream is seizing the resources that your parents never had the chance to access. It's waking up each morning with the belief that anything you set your mind to is possible. It's the conviction that what you have is enough to succeed in life. It's a tenacity that doesn't waver despite the unpredictability of life. It's a forward-looking mindset firmly rooted in the actions of today.” We wish Daniel all the best in his future endeavors!
